Saturday, 15 April 2017, the Omicron Chapter (UNL) of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, was re-chartered in a ceremony held in Omaha at the JCC, with many alumni and families in attendance, as well as officers from the national headquarters in Indianapolis. Jean Cahan, Director of the Harris Center, was recognized for her help in reaching this goal.
Historically the "Sammies" were a fraternity mainly for Jewish men, but open to all. In the past two years there has been a very active recruitment effort, and recently the threshold for re-chartering was reached. It is hoped that continued recruitment will lead eventually to the purchase of a fraternity house near the UNL campus.
