Jean Cahan, senior lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, will give a talk about her book Szatmár Story for the University Honors' Book Talk on May 5 at 2:00 p.m., with a reception to follow, in the City Campus Union. The event is free and open to the public.
Published by Archway Publishing, the book is an account of the experiences of two Central European families that relies extensively on the work of historians as well as unpublished papers and letters. Cahan reconstructs the events and processes her parents experienced during the time leading up to the Second World War, during the Holocaust, and after.
She has taught European philosophy at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for three decades and helped found the Harris Center for Judaic Studies program in 1992—leading it until last year.
The event is sponsored by the center, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures, the Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs Program, Humanity in Action, and the EVZ Foundation.
